Kids Trail Running Reviews Hydrapak SoftFlask Collapsible Sports Bottles

  • by

Moms and Dads, I think we’ve found a winner in the hydration sports bottle department!

The Hydrapak SoftFlask Collapsible Sports Bottles (SF 750 & SF 500) are not only kid-friendly and perfect for grown-ups who love to trail run, but they are lightweight, collapsible, easy to carry/hold, and fun to use.  The SoftFlasks fit into popular hydration vest pockets, waist-style carriers, back-mounted hydration carriers with pockets, backpacks, and lunch boxes!  When empty and collapsed, they can fit into a pocket–that’s a good thing for grown-ups who often get ‘stuck’ carrying things for kids.

Thanks to Hydrapak, the kids and I had a chance to test out Hydrapak’s new collapsible Softflask Collapsible Sports Bottles (SF 750 & SF 500) on the trails.

Kids Trail Running Tests Hydrapak SoftFlask™ SF750 & SF500

The kids test out Hydrapak SoftFlasks.

The kids and I had a blast testing Hydrapak SoftFlasks on the trails.  We took the collapsible hydration flasks on a fabulous run on Vermont’s Kingdom Trails network, and later on a fabulous mountain run/hike in New Hampshire’s White Mountains.

Here’s what the kids who tested Hydrapak SoftFlasks on beautiful pine needle covered New England trails and over a New Hampshire mountain peak had to say about the collapsible bottles:

The 10 Year Old:  “It has a very nice grip, and you get a better grip if it gets wet. You can use the tag as a holder for your finger if you are running with just the bottle. The cap is super duper easy to pop off to get a drink of water. It’s very cool how you bite down on the valve and water starts dripping into your mouth. Kids will love this bottle because it fits a lot of water if they aren’t carrying a back hydration pack, and it holds enough water for a short trail run.”

The 13 Year Old: “I like how the Hydrapak is so portable!  It’s easy to drink out of it. It’s light. I also like how if you flip it over the water doesn’t leak out. I don’t like the cap. When you screw it on, it’s a little tricky.”

The Mom:  The kids LOVE the Hydrapak SoftFlasks so much that I’ve noticed they are also using them off the trail, too.  I’ve found the kids packing the SoftFlasks in their summer camp backpacks, taking them along in car rides, bringing them on walks, and taking them outside for play.  They have become so popular in my household that the kids prefer the flasks to their stainless steel, reusable bottles.  Even my husband has been seen drinking from Hydrapak SoftFlasks when he’s not out ultramarathon training!

I should have guessed that Hydrapak’s collapsible bottles would be a hit.  My kids already loved using Hydrapak bladders in their back-mounted hydration carriers.  I’m pretty thrilled that the Hydrapak SoftFlasks are incredibly user (and kid & parent) friendly.  They don’t leak, and they have a click-locking top (you turn clockwise to lock).  It’s also possible to hang the flasks easily to dry after cleaning.

Since these Hydrapak collapsible sports bottles take up so little space, I’ve actually had the thought that perhaps I should weed out our overflowing “water bottle” kitchen drawer and replace it with SoftFlasks, which would take up a fraction of the space. I love how it’s totally possible to stow an empty flask in your pocket or backpack for later use–it’s that flexible and collapsible!

If you’re looking for a kid-friendly hydration option, the Hydrapak SoftFlask is a great pick.  Hydrapak’s collapsible sports bottles would also make a fantastic gift for a runner.  Seriously, they rock.
